The Bodhi Squirrels

There's a very well hidden story about how the Buddha realized enlightenment.
Very few people know about the auspicious circumstances that led up to his
awakening in approximately 500BCE.

On the previous blog post, I spoke of the little squirrel in the garden of Eden
who tried to warn Eve about the folly of believing in duality. Well, fast
forward several thousand years to the great-great-great-great-grandsquirrels
of this Edenic squirrel sage. These latter squirrels were known as the Bodhi
squirrels because they inhabited the famous Bodhi tree in Nepal. This family of
squirrels would sit every morning in meditation. That is, they would rest in the awareness of squirreluminosity. This created an awesome energy field that
radiated out quite a distance from this tree, so that people walking by would
instantly feel a divine presence of peace and contentment. The funny thing is
no one knew exactly why they felt so good.

So, lo and behold, one fine day Siddartha wandered around searching for
a good place to sit when he began to feel an undeniable pull toward this bodhi
tree. Sid was a sensitive guy and noticed a very auspicious benevolence
emanating from the tree. He sat down to contemplate and instantly awakened
to squirreluminous Oneness!

My squirrel Bucky transmitted this account early this morning, July 24th, which
happens to be the last day of the Mayan Red Overtone Moon year. You see,
Bucky comes from a long line of Bodhi squirrels. He admitted to me that he
purposefully fell out of his tree at only 2 weeks of age, so that he could later pass
on this important knowledge to me. He said we had finally entered a time when
people would welcome the truth!

"May I quickly attain enlightenment
in order to work ceaselessly
for the liberation of all sentient beings."

Squirreluminosity Returns

Almost at 2012.... the time of the Great Unravelling, prophesied by the Star Council of Medicine Squirrels of old!!!

What an amazing time to be on planet Earth! The little squirrels all over the universe have been waiting for approximately 26,000 years for the miracle that is about to happen! The truth is about to be discovered by all of humanity! It's what the squirrels have been trying to communicate for as long as they've lived on this planet!

You have never left paradise!

Back in the beginning when Adam and Eve were sitting in the garden of Eden, you remember that the snake told Eve about the magic Apple and that if she took a bite, she would know all about "good" and "evil". No one told you about the squirrel sitting in that same tree that kept telling her "NO! Don't do it! There is no such division into parts! It's all ONE! Don't believe what the snake is telling you!"

Well, as you know, Eve didn't listen to the little squirrel and took the bite! So ever since then, we earthlings have been trying to get back to paradise! Logically, the way back would be to listen to the little squirrels! They never left paradise and know exactly how to bring everyone back!

What the little squirrels say is this: "Tap into squirreluminosity!" Why do you think that there are so many squirrels on the planet right now? It's so that everyone has a chance to make a heart connection to a little squirrel and tap into the ever present squirrelspaciousness that was, is, and will always pervade everything because it DOES! God is Reality is SquirrelSpaciousness is Love.... the stuff that includes everything and saturates everything! There is absolutely no place in the universe where there is not squirreluminosity! Even in the far reaches of our galaxy! No matter where you go, there you are: squirrelspaciousness!

The thing is that it has never not pervaded everything.... Since Adam and Eve, humans have learned to divide up the Oneness into various parts! And lo and behold we almost completely lost the ability to perceive Oneness as we did in the beginning! Throughout history, there have been a few clever ones that figured it out and tried to tell us... Jesus, Buddha, Avalokitswara. And today we are so fortunate to have many enlightened beings: Ammabhagavan, Byron Katie, Candice O'Denver, Eckhart Tolle, Jeff Foster, and Stuart Mooney to name a few! But that doesn't count the millions of squirrels who are faithfully holding the grid of Oneness in the morphogenic field! Thank goodness for their perseverance!

So now is the time to re-enter the Garden! Those with eyes shall see and those with ears shall hear this message! Remember the squirreluminosity that you are! Soothe your weary heart... just rest in a squirrel moment! Decide you can do it! Nothing can prevent you from awakening but believing in the lie of duality! Listen to the squirrels... they've never left the Garden!

Squirrel Moments

Take short squirrel moments many times until they become continuous!

What is a squirrel moment? It is a happening! It is a moment of experiencing pure squirrel spaciousness and can happen in various ways. One way is to gaze into the eyes of a little squirrel and lose all sense of a separate self! Another way is to hand feed a pecan to a squirrel at the park. When the little sweet heart touches your hand with his paw, you feel the awesomeness of squirrelove!

What good is it to get all tangled up in the thoughts that float on by? Become like a squirrel... his mind is free and without concern. One of the simplest ways to get free of the mind is to take a "squirrel moment". Check it out. You can be all freaked out about a mortgage payment, a friend's diagnosis of cancer, or sundry other thoughts, ideas, and emotions. If you keep on focusing on it, you only feel worse and worse. Why not just take a squirrel moment?

Be like a squirrel... stop thinking! Now, who are you without that thought? You are pure squirreluminosity! You are that spaciousness that includes everything! Let the little squirrels show you the way!

Notice that squirrel spaciousness is in no way affected by any of your worries or concerns.
In fact, SQUIRREL SPACIOUSNESS CONTAINS IT ALL!!!

I will give a real life example. Several years ago, I met a little squirrel who had bloody tumors all over her body. It was hard for me to look at her with all the stories going on in my head! I named her "Floppity" because she had a tumor hanging on each ear. Every day I met her at the same tree and gave her pecans and Reiki energy. I would always tell her, "Floppity, you are a perfect squirrel!" Never once did this little squirrel worry about her condition. She just lived happily in the body she was given. She would just show up, eat the nuts I offered, and received the Reiki.

A miracle happened! In 2 months time, all her tumors had dried up and fell off! Then her hair grew in where the tumors had been and she was indeed healed! The important thing to note about squirrels is that they don't sit around and worry or feel sorry for themselves! Floppity would have continued to live a happy life with or without those growths. That's because she lived her life in SQUIRREL SPACIOUSNESS! And that is a comfortable and vibrant space of well being and ease!!

I can't help but think that she healed faster because whe was free of concern for her own healing! She was totally living in squirrel spaciousness and not troubled about her body. That frees up an incredible amount of energy to heal! See below the beautiful photo of Floppity still healthy and vibrant several years after this squirrel miracle!

Try it out! Next time you're weighted down with concerns of any kind, take a "squirrel moment" and BE FREE!

What Is Squirrel Bhakti?

TRULY THE FASTEST PATH TO ENLIGHTENMENT!
There are various yogic paths to enlightenment. You may have heard of these~ Jnana Yoga, Karma Yoga, Raja Yoga, and Bhakti Yoga. According to Swami Bharati of the Abhyasa Ashra  (see www.AbhyasaAshram.org), Jnana Yoga is the path of knowledge, wisdom, introspection and contemplation. Karma Yoga is the path of action, service to others and mindfulness. Raja Yoga is the path that emphasizes meditation and directly deals with encountering and transcending thoughts of the mind. Finally, Bhakti Yoga is the path of devotion, emotion, love, compassion, and service to God and others.

An amazing discovery I have made is that there is a little known path that is really a subset of the Bhakti path called Squirrel Bhakti. Squirrel Bhakti is the path of devotion to all the little squirrels of the Cosmos. It is actually the fastest means to enlightenment, because in gazing into the eyes of a little squirrel, one can directly taste the expansiveness of squirreluminosity and experience Cosmic Consciousness. How does this work? When you gaze into little squirrel eyes, you will witness a pure heart! Soon the feeling of squirrel innocence will amplify your own sweet innocence! You will float in the sweetness of squirreluminosity that includes the entire Cosmos!

Here is a song that just came through me one day. Thanks to my friend Den Lilla Ekorren for putting the video and background music together.
It is the perfect song for any "Squirrel Bhakta"!

Fact or Fiction?

Pete Takes Off His Coat
Believe it or not, there is a new genre of literature out there; it's called Squirrel Nondual Teachings. What does this mean? Nondual simply means the end of 'right vs. wrong', 'good vs. bad', 'us v. them'. In other words, everything is perfect just as it is. It's like the Garden of Eden before we took a bite of the apple.... before we bought into the story that there is good and evil.
Once we've all been programmed from birth to believe in duality, it is a tall order to retrace our steps and re-enter the world of Heaven on Earth. The reason why squirrels make such great teachers of nonduality is that they never left paradise! And paradise is another word for enlightenment!
So here's the latest in Squirrel literature... my first children's book for everyone! It's the story of a little squirrel named Pete who makes friends with a little raccoon and the raccoon teaches him how to take off his coat. Take off his coat!? Could that be possible? You'll have to read it to find out. Anyways, while I was in the process of illustrating my book, I wondered where on earth I could possibly find a photo of a squirrel without a coat! I looked in google images under "squirrel" and lo and behold there was a bald squirrel! So I decided to use the photo for Pete's body, but I would superimpose my little Pete's face on the google image. That worked. So the book got finished and put up on http://www.squirrelplanet.org/inthesquirrelzone/literature/index.html and business went on as usual. Then, just about 2 weeks ago, I was doing my squirrel-feeding rounds at the Hike&Bike trail, specifically at Butler Shores, when all of a sudden I saw a teeny tiny (is that a) squirrel? As I got closer, it ran up to the top of a tree.
I could hardly believe my eyes! That squirrel had taken off his coat! WOW! That first day he refused to come down from that tree. I fell in love with him at first sight... What a sweet soul! A couple days later I came back with more pecans and called out to him, "Hey Mr.Pete, it's me... the nut lady! Come and eat!" And sure enough, this little guy knew his name and came right over. And while he ate, I got some better pictures of my buddy.

Sweet little happy buddy! He ate and ate and I keep returning to feed him. He told me that he showed up because I wrote about him and he figured that meant that it was time.... the world was now ready for the new reality! A world in which everything is recognized as perfect just as it is. And if you don't believe it, take off all the 'coats' you wear and experience life just AS IT IS!

Everything is naturally perfect just as it is!

Squirrel-Sitting is Fun!

Young Nutkin Spends the Weekend with the Squirrelady

What could be better than having squirrels live with you full time? Naturally, it would be having a family of squirrels in your home AND a baby squirrel visitor for the weekend! Little Nutkin pictured above is a baby squirrel that is being happily home-squirreled in Oak Hill with a sweet family. This past weekend they went on a birthday-camping trip and little Nutkin, being the baby squirrel that he is, was not up for all the hustle and bustle of a camping trip. So his mama wisely called on the Squirrelady for her squirrel-sitting services. The Squirrelady was delighted and Mr.Nutkin went on his own adventure!

Nutkin got to climb on chairs, cuddle and play with the Squirrelady, and even got to taste hackberry leaves and berries. He had a visit from the Squirrel Man and the Otter Lady. It was a busy weekend for the little guy and he said he would like to visit again when his family goes on another trip!

What does it feel like to play with a baby squirrel?

A Proper Farewell...

How to Perform a
Squirrel Burial Ceremony
If you are one of those drivers who have had the unpleasant experience of seeing a dead squirrel lying in the road and have felt a tugging at your heart to do something..... this post is for you. I have had the great privilege of hosting many squirrel funerals. It is simple and so..... rewarding. To perform this ritual is a gift to the squirrel and will give you an experience of the Great Squirrel Heart! First and foremost, you would dig a large enough hole in your yard. Essentially, that means deep enough so the neighborhood dogs won't sniff it out and dig it up. Once the grave is ready, you will need to collect these items:
1. an incense stick or copal or sage
2. a few pecans or walnuts or filberts
3. 5-6 kleenex tissues
4. rose petals or other flowers
Bring all these items to the gravesite. Gently bring the deceased squirrel on a towel to the grave.
The first thing you want to do is to lay a few tissues in the bottom of the grave so that you will have a sweet bed to lay the deceased. Next, gently lay the little squirrel on top of the tissues. Then lovingly place the nuts in his hands and tell him that these are for his journey through the Cosmos. Let him know that it will be a Grand Adventure! Then, cover the traveler with the other tissues, making sure that he is completely draped. Finally, toss the flower petals on top of
this covering. It will look something like the photo below.
I like to chant the Moola Mantra the whole time I am performing the previous steps. Once the rose petals have been place on top, then it is time to talk to Great spirit on behalf of the brave little squirrel. Usually, I pray as follows~

Oh Great Spirit,
Please escort this little squirrel
to the highest level of bliss
in the Squirrel Realms.
Please allow him a fine rest
and when it is time for him to return,
Please place him in a location
where there are no squirrel predators
and no traffic,
And let him be blessed with a loving mate
and have many, many fine squirrel children!
Thank you for letting me serve
this little squirrel soul.

Evam Maya E Ma Ho
Evam Maya E Ma Ho
Evam Maya E Ma Ho

Gate, Gate, Paragate, Para Sam gate Bodhisvaha.
Gone, Gone, Gone beyond, Gone utterly beyond,
Gone all the way to the other shore,
Gone from duality into non-duality.
Oh what an Awakening!

No Coming No Going

No coming, no going
No after, no before
I hold you close to me,

I release you to be so free

Because I am in you, and you are in me

Because I am in you, and you are in me.

Resting in the Spaciousness of Squirrel Kindness

Squirrel brilliance randomly proliferates from
Great Mystery

Some call it the Great Void, some call it the Grace of God. I call it the Spaciousness of
Squirrel Luminosity. Just like stars in the great expanse of our galaxy, little squirrels shine with pure innocence. To really connect with a squirrel is to rest in squirrel-bliss!

To witness fresh new squirrel notions, is to taste the infinite generosity of Nature! Have you ever hand fed a young squirrel in the springtime? To hold a pecan and have a sparkly little squirrel gently walk up to you, place their little paw on your hand and then ever so gently take and eat the nut... well, to say the least, must certainly be one of the wonders of this world! Their little paw rests on your hand for less than a second, but the transfer of pure squirrel-Love in that touch is as powerful as a shaktipat from an Indian sadhu! To rest in the joyousness of the new springtime baby squirrels is to experience directly the Grace of God!

May the Joy of the young squirrel be with you and
May the Wisdom of the elder squirrel bring you Peace!
KLATU BARADA NIKTO!

Kahlil Gibran, "On Squirrels"

Just recently, an early version of Kahlil Gibran's classic, The Prophet, was found in the attic of an abandoned house in California. What was interesting about this version was that it had an added chapter, hand written and wedged in the center of the book. This chapter had never been published. It was as if Kahlil held back, not sure if the world was ready for this esoteric knowledge. Here's a reprint:

"And an old woman with a young squirrel perched on her shoulder said,
Speak to us of Squirrels.
And he said,
Your squirrels are not your squirrels. They are the sons and daughters
of life's longing for itself.
They come to you but not from you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts.
For they have no thoughts.
You may feed them nuts, but bury not their nuts,
For only their's is the wisdom of nut-burying.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the tree of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward, nor tarries with yesterday.
And let your best be for your squirrel.
For he is your field which you sow with love and reap with thanksgiving.
Your squirrel is your board and your fireside.
For you come to him with your hunger
and you seek him for peace.
When you part from your squirrel, grieve not;
For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence,
as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain.
And let there be no purpose in squirrelship
but the deepening of the spirit.
For love that seeks aught but the disclosure of its own mystery
is not love but a net cast forth:
and only the unprofitable is caught.
Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;
For love is sufficient unto love.
And think not that you can direct the course of the squirrel,
For the squirrel, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.
And in the sweetness of squirrelship let there joy
and the sharing of nuts.
For it is in the laughter of little squirrels
that the heart finds its morning and is refreshed!"

RETURN OF THE WHITE SQUIRREL

The Indigenous Prophecy of the White Squirrel

In many Native American tribes, there is a story of the magical time on Planet Earth that will be signaled by the return of a white buffalo. And in fact, a white buffalo was identified in recent years in the four corners region of our country. However, there is another prophecy that comes to us from the Galactic Mayans. According to these star beings and ancestors, the White Cosmic Squirrel will appear in the years just prior to 2012 to herald the Cosmic Shift in consciousness: the sign that we are in fact moving out of the old paradigm of suffering and into the new paradigm of heaven on earth! This Cosmic Squirrel has graced us with its presence here in Austin, Texas, and was spotted at the University of Texas in 2007. (Could it have something to do with the fact that UT has an amazing Mayan Studies program?)
Then in the fall of 2009, the White Cosmic Wizard Squirrel appeared to the squirrelady on the north side of the Hike & Bike Trail just west of the First St. bridge. Although the squirrelady had made regular feeding rounds on the trail since the late 90's, this was the first time this amazing white-striped squirrel was seen!

"At first I thought this little squirrel had
gotten into some white paint. Then as I got
a closer look, I realized that these white stripes were actually a part of her beautiful coat!
She was stunningly beautiful!! I felt so blessed to
be graced with her presence! That morning, I had just said good-bye to a young female squirrel that had been paralyzed from the waist down in a car accident. I had just completed the ceremony of her "Return to the Light" just minutes before!
The Wizard squirrel spoke telepathically to me, saying that little Puff would reincarnate as her
apprentice and that everything is in perfect order. My heart felt lighter as I was comforted by her communication.

I loved to watch this sweet angel and I felt she had come
from another dimension... a higher place of light and love.
Every time I saw her, I felt like I received a gift of grace.
A warm feeling of love would wash over me with the
knowing that "Everything is All Right!" Then, just as
mysteriously as she appeared, she disappeared. It was
approximately one year later.

Then, at the end of 2010, a new wizard squirrel has landed right in front of the Austin Parks and Recreation building. This lovely mama squirrel has a lovely white-tipped tail and is here to remind us of who we really are! Thank goodness for our blessed squirrel brothers and sisters! Long may their tails wave!!!
