Bucky Goes To The Dentist

Did you know that little squirrel's teeth keep growing???
It's up to them to grind them down on tree bark and hard nuts. However, sometimes the teeth don't line up properly... that's what is called a malocclusion. Sometimes a squirrel is born with one but mostly it can happen when the squirrel has had a trauma to his face.

It was this past June when the day came to put Bucky outside in the big release cage. There he would get used to the sounds of the neighborhood... dogs barking, birds chirping, cars honking, etc. His brother Pete had been outside in that cage for about a month and finally was on his own. Pete always came back to the outside cage for food. I put little Bucky out one fine morning and to my surprise, he started running around inside the cage right away! Pete had been very cautious and hid in his little box inside the cage for a couple days before he decided to explore this larger environment. He had taken it very slowly. So when I saw Bucky so at ease, I thought "He'll be outside playing with Pete in no time!" I went inside the house and in about 15 minutes or so, I heard a big ruckus outside and squirrels chattering. I ran outside immediately to find Pete and another little squirrel jumping from the release cage to the roof. It seems they were running from a cat that decided to check out the new occupant! The cat had run off too. But little Bucky was chattering and chattering! I said, "Bucky, what are you upset about? you're the one that's safe in the cage!" But he kept on chattering! I opened the door of the cage to see what he was so upset about and to my horror, his little snout was all bloody! My heart just sank...I couldn't imagine what could have happened! I took Bucky inside the house right away and cleaned his face. Poor little guy was so upset. It seems that he had been chewing on the cage and visiting with Pete who was on the outside. Then when the cat came and startled them, Pete took off running and Bucky got his teeth stuck on the wire! In his fright to get away, he pulled his teeth forward and cut his snout! On My!

Little Bucky's face was so sore that he couldn't chew anything for awhile. He got his nourishment from banana milkshakes! It took a good while before he could chew, but what was worse, he couldn't grind down his own teeth! That means they kept growing! Soon enough, those teeth would have to be trimmed!

It became harder and harder to chew

pecans and impossible to crack a shell!

So after a lot of research and talking to

other squirrel rehabblers, I got a pair of

jewelry cutter clippers and trimmed his

upper left tooth. That's all he could handle.

Then I had a vet tech hold him so I could

trim the upper right tooth. After that little

adventure, Bucky gave the vet tech a dirty look, as if to say, "I know who you are and I promise you that will not happen again!"

Needless to say, ever since that day, Bucky would not let me or anyone near his teeth. Consequently, they grew and grew and pretty soon he couldn't chew the nuts he loves so much. So I had to make an appointment with a very considerate vet named Dr.Paul. One very early morning, before little Bucky was awake, I put his little squirrel nest box in a cage and covered it with blankets before he could notice. We drove up to Dr.Paul's office and filled out all the papers. Dr.Paul administered some fast acting anasthesia and in less than 15 minutes, Bucky had brand new teefers!!! It was a squirrel miracle!

I brought him home and put his nest box back in his cage. Then after a nap, Bucky emerged from his nest and looked around like he had just awoken from a dream. I said, "Hi Bucky, would you like a nut?" I gave him several pecans and he ate one after another without stopping. He was so happy to be

able to chew again! We were so delighted that Bucky and I played all afternoon, celebrating! Bucky sends a big THANK YOU to Dr.Paul and his staff!

People often underestimate the amazing wisdom of our furry tailed ones! Just the other day my little squirrel Bucky told me, "There is no point trying to do anything ahead of its time. The universe won't allow it. If you simply wait, the action will arise on its own and it will be exactly on time!" I love having a squirrel teacher in my home. He told me that is how all the Great Masters got their inspiration. He said little squirrels don't care who gets credit for the idea... they just want the ideas to get out into the morphogenic field.

Squirrel Angels Are Watching Over You!

Did you know that there are 22 squirrel angels for every human being on the earth? Practically everyone knows that a squirrel's main job is to plant trees. But very few realize that the other important responsibility a squirrel has is to guide and teach human beings the Way of Lovingkindness. You can observe the way mama squirrels take care of their young. They are gentle, yet firm. They exemplify unconditional love and are great teachers. You may also observe that squirrels like to play and even cuddle with each other. They seem to enjoy every moment and for them, there is no difference between work and play. They certainly have mastered the art of enjoying life!

Squirrel Angel of God, my guardian dear,

To whom God's Love commits me here.

To light and guard, to love and guide. Amen.

Have you thanked the squirrels today?

Perhaps the most significant species of animals in North america is the squirrel! They are part of every corner of the continent, living in urban and rural areas and in wilderness. They live in large numbers in other parts of the world, such as most European forests.

Did you know that their existence in large numbers was a major factor in developing and maintaining the world's forests; THE SQUIRRELS BEING ONE OF THE FEW SPECIES OF ANIMALS WITH DIRECT CONTRIBUTION IN DEVELOPING AND MAINTAINING THE FORESTS DURING MILLIONS OF YEARS, by planting various nuts. Their existence as a species is appreciated to have begun about 35 million years ago!

It is time for us to have the maturity and common sense to understand and appreciate their major, vital importance for us and for the Earth as a whole, and to stop giving them the "pests" status, associating squirrels with rats (both are rodents), savaging and abusing them. If they chew the roof to keep warm for winter, or eat the bulbs from the garden, desparate of hunger, we have to remember- WE BREATHE OUR AIR BECAUSE OF SQUIRRELS IN PART.

WHAT YOU CAN DO: Feed them. Feed first the ones around your house. Buy peanuts, walnuts, pecans, filberts, sunflower seeds. (20 pounds of peanuts are $25, which is not too much), buy a 20-pound bag for the winter months. and go in the park of your choice and feed them. AND BECAUSE WE OWE THEM SO MUCH, IT IS OUR VERY DUTY TO PROTECT THEM FROM ABUSES, TO TREAT THEM IN A HUMANE AND CIVILIZED WAY AND TO COMPENSATE THEM FOR TAKING OVER THEIR HABITAT by helping them with food and nests.

It's time to live in peace with our furry tailed friends. God bless al the squirrels of the world!

Floppity is a Grandmother Squirrel

Floppity is a Grandmother Squirrel!

About 8 years ago I first met little Floppity. I called her Floppity because she had tumors all over her little body and there was one on each ear which gave her floppy ears. She had a condition some call "squirrel pox". When I first saw her I fell in love with her. I fed Floppity shelled pecans every day and while she sat and ate them, I would give her Reiki (healing energy). After about two months, each of the growths dried up and fell off. She has never had any problems after that. Her first litter was affected with the pox and 2 out of the 3 babies died, but the third squirrel survived and healed. I called her Bumpy. Then Bumpy grew up and had a litter and I'm happy to report that her young are free of pox! Squirrels, and in fact all animals, love Reiki healing energy! First Squirrel Crossing Sign in Austin

History is Made in Austin: First Ever Squirrel Crossing Sign!!!

Thanks to the squirrel conscious folks at Austin Parks and Rec at 200 S.Lamar for looking out for our furry tailed friends! All the little squirrels that like to hang out there at Butler Shores are very grateful... especially the baby squirrels. Bucky (see previous pages) let us know that often the mama squirrels get hit by cars that speed in and out of the Park on Riverside just west of Lamar. This leaves us with orphaned babies that need full time care... Thank you to the good people at Austin Parks and Rec. for caring enough to put up a Squirrel Crossing Sign! Let's hope to see more of these signs throughout Austin! Let's make Austin a "squirrel-friendly" town!

Squirrel Galactica: The Real Truth Comes Out

Have you ever really thought about the amazing job that squirrels are doing on this planet? People do not realize that every time a little squirrel plants a nut in the ground, it is actually planting energetic seeds of unity consciousness! All squirrels are tuned in to the huge energetic shift of 2012. The Council of Old Medicine Squirrels long predicted that in the year 2012, there would be underway what they called "THE GREAT UNRAVELLING"! This means that as we say goodbye to the old cycle of the darkness of confusion, we say hello to the new cycle of the Light of Love and Understanding. The actual end date is Dec. 21, 2012 which is the day the axis of the earth makes its first move toward galactic center and towards the Light! Just think! It had been away from the light for about 26,000 years!



The Old Medicine Squirrels call this astronomical event the "Unravelling" because the infusion of light acts as a catalyst for the unraveling of all the outdated concepts that humanity assumed were true, believed them and created their own nightmare.
As our little squirrels put seeds of Light into our earth people start to question things they used to believe were true. For example, I feed the squirrels on the Hike and Bike Trail in Austin about four times a week. It used to be that people would be afraid to feed the squirrels because they believed the concept "Squirrels want to bite people." Now people are experiencing for themselves that this is not true. Squirrels are gentle creatures and they want to eat nuts not people. So I give a person a nut, and introduce him to one of my many squirrel friends and say "Just hand him this nut (I give the person a pecan) and get close enough so he doesn't have to jump or reach for it" You see, people were so fearful in the past that they would stand too far from the tree and the squirrel would have to jump or reach with his paw and the person would freak out and get scratched. The poor squirrel was just trying to get the nut!
The other thing people don't realize about our squirrelly friends is that they don't see very well. Squirrels can't see directly in front of them, so when you hand them a nut, they can mistake your finger for the nut. Believe me, they don't want your finger. You have to hand the nut to them in a confident and loving gesture and they will take it gratefully! And I guarantee you will experience a rush of Pure Unconditional Love that is plentiful on this beautiful blue-green planet!

The other really cool thing about Squirrels is that they will perfectly mirror back to you what state you are in. If you are fearful, they will appear fearful to you. If you are confident and kind to them, then that is how you will see them. The Squirrels taught me that I am a projector and the world is my projection. When I am in a state of "love" then that is all I can see around me.
So as we experience the Great Unraveling, the old paradigm of scarcity, suffering, and injustice falls away and what emerges is the realization of abundance, joy and equality. All the squirrels on the planet know the difference between what hurts and what doesn't hurt. Therefore you will never find a squirrel that believes their thoughts! A squirrels' mind is free and without concern. They don't bury nuts for the future... they just bury nuts because that's their job. And if you spend years watching them as I have, you will realize that they bury nuts for everyone. They know that nothing belongs to them. They put nuts in the ground and when they want them they dig them up. It doesn't matter to them which nut they dig up. All nuts belong to all the squirrels!

Earl Grey: The French Squirrel from New Orleans

Once upon a time there was a family of grey squirrels living happily in New Orleans. They played together and lived in a cozy nest at the very top of a tall tree. One day a big storm came up. The wind was blowing really hard and the squirrels had a difficult time hiding form the rain and wind. One family had a little baby and they were all huddled together in their nest trying to stay safe and warm. The wind was getting stronger and the rain pelted down like bullets. Just then, the force of the storm threw down their tree and only the little baby grey squirrel was left in the nest. She honkered down and waited, hoping that her family would return safely.

There were sounds of sirens and people were being asked to leave their homes and go to safer places. This storm, which they named Katrina, resulted in a whole bunch of people and animals moving to Austin, Texas.

One young man was living in the apartment next to the tall tree that came down. When he was leaving his home, he saw the fallen tree next to his dwelling. He saw the nest and wondered if there was a bird or squirrel in it.

He reached in with his hand and found a tiny baby grey squirrel all curled up in a furry ball.

"Hi, little one," he said. "I think you'd better come with me. I'm going to visit my sister in Austin, and that would be a safe place for a little squirrel to be. You can ride with me!"

So, off they rode out of New Orleans, leaving the storm behind and a new adventure ahead! The young man had no idea how to take care of a baby squirrel, but he was confident that someone would be willing to help once he got to his sister's house. And in fact, that is exactly what happened. His sister found Clarissa Summers' impressive website on squirrel care and nutrition and called her right away. As Clarissa lives in Houston, she told him to take the little grey to the Squirrelady of Austin and he did.

That was over 4 years ago now, and Earl Grey contentedly lives a life of luxury in 78704. In fact it seems a bit of a coincidence that Earl, the beautiful girl squirrel and Queen of the French Quarter would end up living at the address "2012". Anyone that knows about the Mayan Calendar knows that 2012 is a very significant number! And very few people realize the connection between the Mayans and the grey squirrel!

In Martin Brennan's book, "The Hidden Maya", he relays one of the stories of creation in which a grey squirrel escorted the Sun on its first journey across the sky. The other animals were angered by the light of the Sun in their eyes, but the squirrel welcomed the Sun's light and became known as the Sun's companion. In the beginning of time, the grey squirrel guided the Sun across the sky and built an altar to Him in the West.

The wolves and jaguars became jealous and killed the squirrel. And to this day, the squirrel is considered to be a hero god. In fact, in the Yucatan, you can see the glyph of the squirrel with the sacred emblem of the Sun emblazoned on its head. This entitlement distinguishes squirrels from other animals and even now, the Huichol Indians offer sacrifices to this hero god! (See p.158 in Martin's book)

So it's no wonder that little Earl ended up on the doorstep of 2012! Little did she know that the Squirrelady teaches Mayan astrology and is a Mayan daykeeper. She holds a blessing for Mother Earth every 13 days according to the Mayan Calendar!
