Squirrel Food for Thought

Little squirrels love to eat!
Anytime is a good time for a snack!
And any place is the right place for food...

Squirrels love to really "get into" their food!

And they are always happy...
to help you eat your food!

Squirrels are naturally attracted to
food that is good for them,
but they are always ready
to try a "new" food!

And if you leave food behind,
you can rest assured that little squirrels
will not waste one bite!

So it's good to start them off right when they're young!
Feed them the way mama squirrel would approve...

The next best thing (when mama's not there)...

For a wonderful manual on the healthiest way to feed squirrels,

Because a well fed squirrel is a happy squirrel!

The Buck Stops Here

We've all heard this statement,
"The buck stops here".
But what does it mean?

There comes a point in everyone's life where a choice is pondered... whether to follow the old way of "an eye for an eye" or to join with the really great ones in history like Ghandi, Martin Luther King, and Nelson Mandela to name a few; all of whom exemplified the end of violence. To not defend, to love without conditions, and to let go of the need for retribution is the end of karma. This is what the statement
"The Buck Stops Here" really means.

Bucky Squirrel aka Sri Buckyji has completely adopted this stance. Because of a malocclusion ( his upper and lower incisors don't match ) Bucky lives inside and gets his
teeth trimmed every 5 weeks.

Indeed...the Buck has stopped here!

Ancient Tibetan Squirrel Mantra

Om Mani Padme Hum is the most widely used of all Buddhist chants. The mantra originated in India and invokes the benevolent blessings of Avalokiteshvara, the goddess of compassion. The literal meaning of this phrase is "jewel in the lotus". And as my squirrel guru, Sri Buckyji, has told me over and over again... that for every squirrel, the jewel in the lotus is the pecan.

Buckyji has also informed me that the mantra was misheard by the Indians who thought the squirrels were chanting "OM Mani Padme Hum", when in fact they were chanting, "OM My Pecan is Home"!

Sri Buckyji has told me that "one's home is where the nut is". It's no mystery then, that deep in the heart of Texas, we not only find the most amazing pecan trees, but we find the home of many a squirrel saddhu!

Only God Can Make A Squirrel

There are some amazing poems that even decades after they were written, are remembered by the majority of people. No doubt you will recall one such poem by Joyce Kilmer (1886-1918) called TREES. The famous first stanza goes:
"I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree."

This sweet smiling squirrel was photographed at UT by a dear friend of mine and inspired me to write a squirrel poem... a tribute to the breathtaking beauty of our beloved squirrel brothers and sisters!
